Across Italy / Attraverso l'Italia. Buildings, cities, landscapes in the travels of French architects, 1750-1850.

Reanissance_italienne_et_architecture_du
The twenty-two essays in this volume explore the diverse perspectives of French architects, not just those members of the French Academy, traveling in Italy and beyond between the second half of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries. The analyses presented prioritize distinct sources and objects of study within a collective narrative that aims to be a critical reflection on the already rich historiography of travel in Italy. This space allows for in-depth explorations that highlight various thematic and research facets, both original and innovative. The plurality of interests and inspirations that emerge from the descriptions and representations of buildings and cities, without neglecting the landscape dimension, allows us to reconstruct, in all its complexity, one of the most prolific periods in the development of the architect, at a crucial time marked by both transformations and continuities.
