The Third Nature
Architecture Facing the Climate Challenge

The biosphere, considered a primary nature relegated to the status of mere scenery, is contrasted with the city, seen as a secondary nature. However, climate change and its consequences for our environment are now challenging this dichotomy: architects need to urgently rethink and reimagine architecture to meet the new challenges of the 21st century.
The book envisions a "third nature," a hybrid of the first two, and explores all the conditions for its realization. Structured in twelve chapters, this treatise aims to provide theoretical and practical support for architects in their efforts toward ecological design. This essay follows on from the reflections undertaken by the author in his previous works devoted to ecology, economics, and energy in their relationship to architecture.
