Cognitive activities of architectural design

Reanissance_italienne_et_architecture_du

Architectural design relies on specific cognitive processes that have been the subject of research for several decades. However, contemporary social and technological upheavals in the discipline call for the development of new knowledge to better understand their impact on design.

This collective work offers an overview of research in the field, opening perspectives towards an ever more refined understanding of the cognitive processes of architectural design: neuroscience of design, uses induced or offered by BIM, information retrieval, representational processes, or even values and processes of participation.

Cognitive design activities in architecture are aimed at researchers in design science and the humanities and social sciences who wish to deepen their knowledge of design activities, at architecture teachers who can put their practices into perspective, and at practitioners, who will find an overview of how scientists define and conceptualize their professional activity.
