Temporalities and the regeneration of the historic city: the Venice Arsenal

Reanissance_italienne_et_architecture_du
The transformation of Venice's Arsenal over the past 30 years is emblematic in many ways. It exemplifies the themes of regeneration and construction on and within the built environment. This transformation reflects a shift in the times and paradigms governing the relationships between context, design, construction, and maintenance. It testifies to the virtuous engagement and equally virtuous conflicts that have characterized the relationship between research, the university, and the transformation of the city. It highlights the unique and resilient character of Venice and the ongoing effort to reinterpret it, to see with fresh eyes—those of a "new modernity"—not only Venice itself, but, through Venice, the current condition in its various temporal dimensions. All of this unfolds in light of the studies and projects originating at the IUAV in Venice, in dialogue with the research of the EVCAU Laboratory and the ENSA Paris Val de Seine, within the framework of scientific collaborations with the University of Paris. The ambitious goal is to create a Voltaic arc between Paris and Venice.
