No treatise, no theory has been able to avoid the fundamental principle of architectural and urban design: creating a space free from the constraints of the external world, a space that is delimited, defined, and meaningful. Construction, decoration, furniture, comfort, the modern open plan, the density of the urban fabric, and the lighting of surfaces all contribute to this artifact—the built space—which organizes our actions, establishes thresholds, and separates what needs to be separated in order to better coexist with others.
